Fall Housekeeping
Entering fall is a joyful time of year with pumpkin spice and apple pie most everywhere you look. Time seems to pick up, but don’t forget the little things that can make your life a bit easier as the years roll on. As a home owner or renter in Eastern North Carolina, it is import to know how to take care of your home. I’ve come to realize that there is not much out there on ENC fall tips so here we go.
#1 Have your HVAC serviced by a licensed professional
#2 Watch out for snakes, cool nights bring them out looking for heat and they like rock trails and paved roads. Also the fall is breeding season for copperheads.
#3 Clean your gutters throughout the fall months. Waiting until the end could cost you. Hurricane season runs through the end of November and you do not want a big rain with full gutters.
#4 Clean around your home and yard as the leaves and pine straw fall. If it stays to0 long it can hold moisture against your home inviting bugs, critters and moisture damage.
#5 While enjoying the cooler weather outdoors remember to protect yourself form mosquitoes, ticks and all the other little bugs we have around these parts. My wife and I prefer to use natural remedies, but you use what works for you. Just use something
#6 Fall can be a time for trimming trees and bushes. I would recommend doing your research before trimming. Some trees and bushes do better with trimming in the spring.
#7 Test your smoke detectors and carbon dioxide detectors.
#8 Have your fire place and/or gas logs inspected or serviced so it will be ready for you on those cool nights.
#9 Fire pit safety is often over looked but can make such a difference for you and your loved ones. Take time to know what your local and/or HOA rules are and have the proper tools.
#10 Have your local licensed professional pest control company spray your yard and home.
